MBA or not

After a decent GMAT performance, now is the time to decide whether to answer the question MBA or not? The introspection began with a look at my short term and long term goals.

Some people point out that there are Bill Gates, Steve Jobs of the world who didn't need an MBA to be so successful. Well, I am not in the same league as the superstars. If I were, I'd already be a superstar and you'd be reading more about me in the news and not this blog.

I am doing quite well in my current position and have been growing in the organization at a moderate pace. However, the growth opportunities are limited going forward and this is where an MBA will certainly help.

Short term: I interact with potential customers to help them plan and implement business solutions. It is very important to understand their business model to devise effective solutions. I will be more effective in my current role with essential skills of management and leadership.

Long term: I'll thrown in entrepreneurship. I aspire to make a difference in the current and future technology offerings. I have worked for a start-up company and have a good understanding of the demands of a start-up. However, the essential management skills and the tools for better decision-making process will prove critical. The networking opportunities don't hurt either.

For now, I'll stick to the safer MBA route.

However, there's more things to consider - the opportunity cost, the desire to stay put with such a comfortable life, institute, part-time or full-time or exec MBA, 1 yr or 2 yrs or 3yrs.
